SWTOR: Keybinds, Movement and Focus Targets (Part 2)

So some people mistakenly think that kiting is just snaring and running away as far as humanly possible, but in reality it's really all about positional and situation awareness.  It's about taking advantage of class deficiencies to maximize on your damage opportunities and minimizing their damage opportunities.  This is why the Vanguard sits in a very good position in my eyes.  Our wide array of abilities give us options for controlling positions in multiple scenarios.

SWTOR: Keybinds, Movement and Focus Targets (Part 1)

I sometimes see people asking for keybinding tips or asking other players what their keybinds are but I never see people list reasons for specific binds.  One thing I dislike about Star Wars: The Old Republic so far is their very poor UI design.  I actually don't have an issue with their HUD layout, but I would respectfully say, they kind of went half-assed on some implementations for controls.  These partial implementations are quite honestly going to cause quite a few headaches for players until they revamp how the UI and keybinds work.

Breaking Down the Different Specs (Part 2)

So first off, to finish up yesterday's post, I'd like to go into the reasons I went Vanguard over Guardian.  I struggled with the decision pretty much until the day before official release.  Even though I had found the Vanguard as the funner class to play, I had a Warrior I really enjoyed PvP'ing with in the Burning Crusade era that I was kind of hoping to recapture the magic with.  To put it in it's simplest terms, the reason I've been playing the Vanguard over the Guardian has been simply the fun factor of the class.  The class feels very complete and has a lot of versatile specs.  Even Assault is beginning to pique my curiosity and that's saying quite a lot considering I don't typically play ranged DPS classes.  The Guardian specs  stances don't seem different with the various specs.  You choose a stance to specialize in and that stance offers a resource generation bonus and maybe guard.  The Vanguard has you make choices such as mobility and high resource regeneration or guard and a somewhat consistent snare or a consistent mobility snare with good DOT damage.

Trooper Vanguard vs Jedi Guardian

So typically in MMO's, I am usually drawn to the heavy armor classes.  I primarily played a Resto Shaman in my WoW days, and while it's not really a heavy armor class, the fact that they could use a shield helped offset that.  I did also play as a Ret Paladin for some time, mainly to do 2's with my usual PvP partner as Rogue and Ret.  So that being said, I've been playing the Jedi Guardian, Trooper Commando and Vanguard for a while now trying to decide what to play post release.

Breaking Down the Different Specs (Part 1)

One the of the main draws of the Vanguard AC to me was how many fun and viable specs there seemed to be. Playing around with each tree in the beta really showed how versatile the class is in playstyle. Here's a quick breakdown of the general feel for each for the skill trees:

First things first!

If you haven't guessed, this is going to be a blog about Bioware's Star Wars: The Old Republic.  I've been pretty active in posting beta videos on my youtube channel and I've decided to also regularly write about what's going on with the game.
